Severity level:
16.

Description:
This error message appears when you try to use an invalid parameter or parameter value for a specific DBCC command.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Error of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and can be fixed by the SQL Server user. The statement cannot be executed this way. The invalid parameter or parameter value must be removed or corrected for the particular DBCC command.

All versions of SQL Server.

Example(s):
DBCC SHRINKDATABASE (MyDatabase, -1)

Remarks:
In the above example we try to shrink via DBCC SHRINKFILE the database MyDatabase to the invalid size of -1 MB. This negative size value raises the error.
