There are already statistics on table ‘%.*ls’ named ‘%.*ls’.

Severity level:
16.

Description:
This error message appears when you try to create a statistic for a table or view, but another statistic with the same name already exists in the database.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Error of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and can be fixed by the SQL Server user. The statement cannot be executed this way. Names of statistics must be unique in a database.

USE tempdb;
GO
IF OBJECT_ID(‘t’) > 0
 DROP TABLE t
GO
CREATE TABLE t
(
 c1 INT
);
CREATE STATISTICS MyStats ON dbo.t(c1);
GO
CREATE STATISTICS MyStats ON dbo.t(c1);

Remarks:
In the above example we try twice to create a statistics with the name MyStats. The second statement raises the error.
