A trigger returned a resultset and the server option ‘disallow results from triggers’ is true.

Severity level:
16.

Description:
This error message appears when you try to return a resultset from a trigger while the server option ‘disallow results from triggers’ is set to true.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Error of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and can be fixed by the SQL Server user. The statement cannot be run this way. You cannot return a resultset from a trigger while this option is set to true.

Versions:
All versions of SQL Server.

Example(s):
USE master;
GO
EXEC sp_configure ‘disallow results from triggers’, ’1′;
RECONFIGURE;

USE tempdb;
GO
IF OBJECT_ID (‘dbo.t’) IS NOT NULL
    DROP TABLE dbo.t;
GO

CREATE TABLE dbo.t
(
    c1 int PRIMARY KEY
);
GO

CREATE TRIGGER dbo.t_i ON dbo.t
FOR INSERT
AS
SELECT 1;
GO

INSERT INTO dbo.t SELECT 0;

Remarks:
In the above example we try to return data from the trigger dbo.t_i. Because the server option ‘disallow results from triggers’ is set to true, the error is raised.
