    Hi Staya/Danny,

Iam confused on this , cant he simply delete the tlog backups from drive where it is stored ?

Is there something iam missing here, if you could explain it would clear my curious mind.

    Cheers

On drive the backup device is saved as on single file I cant open it and delete the transaction log separatly.

May be i can use some third party tool but other than that i dont see how can i open the backup device on the drive and delete the TLog only.

     Thanks

    Hey Danny,

Seems you have no other option...

But can you do what staya asked you to do using the system procedure and post here, just for my understanding.

    Thx

    Re: Backup Device

You can run INIT option with backup that will initialize the device to remove all the files, as you are taking to the same device it is not possible to drop the criteria. Simply drop the device and recreate to have full backups.

    Hi Danny,

There is a work around for you problem...can you restore you full backup to any stand by server? If yes then take backup of that database where you have restored this backup file and delete the original backup file from your machine as you are having the full backup.....I think this should work...

    Hi Danny,

Here is the interesting discussion here on the same

    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2283786&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=889290&SiteID=1

IMO, you can drop the device and then you can delete the physical t-log files, and, then you have an option to create a new dumpdevice for backup with same or new name.
