Cannot change the owner of the master, model, tempdb or distribution database.



Error Message:
Msg 15109, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_changedbowner, Line 22
Cannot change the owner of the master, model, tempdb or distribution database.

Severity level:
16.

Description:
This error message appears when you try to change the owner of one in the message mentioned databases.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Errors of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and are corrigible by the user. The statement cannot be executed this way. You cannot change the owner of these databases.

Versions:
All versions of SQL Server.

Example(s):
USE master
EXEC sp_changedbowner 'myLogin'

Remarks:
In the above example we try to change the owner of the master database. This raises the error.
