Description:
This error message appears when you try to convert a uniqueidentifier to a character string, but the is not enough space in the character string for the result.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Error of the Severity level 16 are generated by the user and are corrigible by the user. The statement cannot be run this way. There must be enough space in the character string for the result of the conversion.

Versions:
All versions of SQL Server.

Example(s):
SELECT CAST(NEWID() AS char(10))

Remarks:
In the above example we try to convert the result of NEWID() into a character string of length 10. Since this is less space than the conversion requires the error is raised.
