You will only get an alert if it is set to log in the event log I do belive I'll see if I can't get a better answer for you.
You have had 1205 errors come through since you setup the alerts?
are you seeing the errors in the application log? have you tried to RAISEERROR with log to force an error that would trigger the alert?
detach/attach you can rename on the reattach.
Veritas sells an agent to backup sql server though the VDI interface. you should NEVER do a file level backup with the open file agent on SQL Server...
could be bad IO on the target system. Was this a restore across the network?

You may want to find the DMV's that have the relavent table columns for those two tables and create a view until you can correct the code.
Also, depending on the number of databases and the size of the stored proceudres you could run a 32-bit install out of MemToLeave space.
