Attach and detattach Primary database

We have a log shipping configured between Primary and secondar database.

However, due to space constraint on Primary database, we have to de-attach the Primary database and when the NT administrator adds extra disk space, re-attach the database to the original location.

Since we have log shipping configured, can we simply disable log shipping and offline both the primary and failover database? so that once the activity is over, we can simply re-start the log shipping activity?

Is my assumption correct, or we can anticipate some problem?

    Please guide me.

Once you stop the log shipping and disk are added its better to take full backup from primary and apply to secondary, then continue the log shipping process.

    Hi,

Since the destination after re-attaching the database would be the original one, still we need to re-configure the log shipping ?

our is 250 GB database and rebuilding takes around 10 hours. so is there any other option other than rebuilding ?

As long as the primary database is not involved in the non-logged operations you can simply re-enable the Log shipping schedule.

As I wasn't aware about the size of database, so as per your clarification you can enable the LS schedule.

    Hi Satya,

Sorry for asking once again for clarification.

So do we can or we cannot reenable the log shipping between Primary and failover database.

We are attaching and de-attaching the primary database, due to space constraint.

    Please clarify.

You can re-enable the LS schedule after the disks are added.
