   How does the Change Data Capture feature in SQL Server 2008 affect performance? Is there any recommendation in how to use it to avoid any performance issue?

   I think very early to say so and so will affect the performance, you should be able to get more information by testing the same within yoru development platform with like to like data.
   Audit the activity such as SELECT statements - CDC fyi.
