SQL Server Performance

Begining a tuning

    Where should I look first?
    The hardware or the SQL server software.

    thanks!

    My configuration:
    - SQL 2K Server Standard + SP3a
    - Win 2K Server Standard + SP4

    First try to tuning software, if after do all work you still have low performance may be is time to think in hardware.

    First, begin by taking a look at this website, especially this article series:http://www.sql-server-performance.com/sql_server_performance_audit.asp.

    In most cases, about 80% of performance issues lay with application software, and 20% or so with hardware and the SQL Server configuraton.
