Here's another opportunity to tell me what you think. Is there any interest in adding a blogging feature to the website so that anyone can create and maintain their own blog? Also, is there any interest in my adding RSS capabilities to the website? Please let me know either way, along with your comments. ----------------------------- Brad M. 1: Good idea, though I won't maintain one myself. 2: Yes, yes, yes!!! ----------------------- --Frank http://www.insidesql.de -----------------------
Its a fantastic feature that allowed SQLTeam website to share the individual experience. So why not us to share the knowledge. Satya SKJ Moderator http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com/forum This posting is provided “AS IS†with no rights for the sake of knowledge sharing.
at the risk of sounding ignorant (and possibly having my moderator status revoked... <img src='/community/emoticons/emotion-5.gif' alt=';-)' /> what is a blog and what is rss?<br /><br />Twan
Hi Brad, an rss feed would be very interesting.. to show latest forum threads, and latest articles Twan a blog is a weblog, kinda like a diary. A superb blog is www.joelonsoftware.com Rss is a way of feeding data out of your website so it can be integrated into other websites as a summary box, or into applications.

You can get RSS readers for free on the net, add the RSS feeds you'd like, for instance <br /<a target="_blank" href=http://msdn.microsoft.com/rss.xml>http://msdn.microsoft.com/rss.xml</a> or<br /<a target="_blank" href=http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/rss.xml>http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/rss.xml</a><br />, and then your reader automatically scans those files in regular intervals and displays what it has found. If the headline is out interest to you, you can jump from the reader straight to the resource. <br /><br />...I've found out about it some two weeks ago and really like it!<br /><br />-----------------------<br />--Frank<br /<a target="_blank" href=http://www.insidesql.de>http://www.insidesql.de</a><br />-----------------------<br />

I am all for the suggestion of using RSS. In fact I think I proposed it sometime back. Example - RSS can allow the people to aubscribe to the articles section so if there is a new article, they will get a new post in the software they are using. This way they don't have to keep on checking on the articles page. Similar thing can be applicable for tips. When it comes to forum, the person who posts, can subscribe to his post and whenever there is a new post on his topic, he will get a notification. So the whole idea for having RSS is to have something done automatically which you do very frequently like reading news, and in the case of the forum, keeping track of the posts. For blogs, I am sure this will be useful for some power users like Satya where they can share their library of articles. As for me, I haven't dug into this technilogy too much so can't comment if I'll use it. Gaurav Moderator Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of a challenging environment- L. Brad....Setup a blog here. Registered and interested members can opt to blog on whatever stuff they (and you) deem important. I have a blog (rant page) at Geekdojo.net but I would really love to have one here for SQL server stuff. Thanks in advance. Nathan H.O. Moderator SQL-Server-Performance.com
I am in the process of evaluating software now. If you have any ideas for software, please let me know. ----------------------------- Brad M. McGehee, MVP Webmaster SQL-Server-Performance.Com
I have a blog athttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com . It would be nice to see that feature here also. It's fun to blog about SQL Server and get feedback from people. It also helps me "sort my thoughts out" sometimes. Tara Duggan runs a weblog I read religiously. People like Kimberly Tripp use them a lot. Who knows....maybe we'll have the next Ken Henderson or Kimberly Tripp from one of our own bloggers. MeanOldDBA derrickleggett@hotmail.com When life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA.
