    It's interesting that this hotfix was released before SQL 2000 SP3 but in the article they recommend you to waith until SQL 2000 SP4. So the hotfix didn't make it into SP3?

    True, its intended to correct problem specified in the KBA.
    And also due to urgency in release of SP3/3a and this fix may receive additional testing to further ensure product quality, so they planned to release with SP4.
