database mirror alert - how can this be checked and how frequent?

I have checked the database mirror alert: 'DB State:Mirroring State Changes'. This alert runs query 'SELECT * from DATABASE_MIRRORING_STATE_CHANGE'. And I think it checks the query via a namespace: '\\.\root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ServerEvents\MSSQLSERVER'.
    1) How often is this alert run or checked as there is no set shcedule?
    2) How does this alert work? I don't know how SQL Server checks to see if there are database mirror state changes using the above query and namespace.

    1) IT depends on how frequently the database is getting updated, if you monitor the DB mirroring from DBM Monitoring it should be enough to see if there is any latency.
    2) Read thru books online on that matter.

hi satya - i've read through BOL - but can't find an explanantion on how the WMI query and namespace work. can u provide a quick explanantion on how frequently the WMI query runs and how I can check this? I'm assuming the WMI query runs every second or it runs everytime the database is updated - any ideas on this please?
