I am trying to pass a trace file to the Database engine tuning advisor

Once i click start analysis it errors saying 'failed to parse input xml.' I have tried saving the trace as xml and parsing that to the tuner and as a table. I always get the same error. This does not happen except when i use the output of a trace. Please help.

Please do not double-post. Are you looking for answers regarding SQL 2005, or regarding SQL 7.0 or 2000?

DTA is specific to SQL 2005, will move to relevant forum and Jules please follow as suggested.

For the error you might need to check the event viewer & SQL error log to see whether any issues on server. If not try the DTA tool from another client's machine.
