Forcing SP Recompiles

A vendor is recommending we run sp_recompile weekly. BOL documentation indicates that "Updates on statistics used by the execution plan, generated either explicitly from a statement, such as UPDATE STATISTICS, or generated automaticallyChanges made to a table or view referenced by the query (ALTER TABLE and ALTER VIEW)." causes a stored procedure to recompile. If I understand this correctly I do not need to create a sp_recompile maintenance job if I am already running UPDATE STATISTICS nightly. Is this correct?

    Thanks, Dave

    Hi Luis,
This link doesn't discuss UPDATE STATISTICS, which the 2005 BOL mention. Here is the link I found. Am I understanding it correctly?
