I finally met Brad....

I always wanted to meet forum members, especially Brad, Satya.... (the list goes on). Finally I got to meet Brad today at a conference. He was much different person than I expected. I expected him to be very agressive but he is so nice and good. I am impressed by him. We talked about the forum and the members and in general he was very happy with the way the things have shaped up and is all because of you guys.

I believe the members of the site and forum have done a brilliant job by posting articles, tips and posts in forum. I remember when I started visiting the site in summer of 2002, I started by reading one of the very early articles by brad - Test your knowledge and after that I got hooked up.

I have learnt a lot from the site and forum and especially from the senior members of the forum. Its like a family to me and I don't consider forum work as a work any more and I beleive same is the case with others as nobody has forced them to come to the site.

So I just wanted to congratulate everybody for making this forum and site so successful and let's hope we keep it the same in future.....

Keep up the good work guys and gals.

Thanks Gaurav, it is also nice to meet people who help out with the website. For those who are interested, I am attending this week the MVP Summit at Microsoft in Washington. I am l earning a lot about SQL Server 2005, unfortunately I am under an NDA and I can't talk about what I have learned at this time.

Brad<br />Thats really good news about you participating in SQL 2K5 beta testing. Due to pre-occupied appointments and project deadlines I'm not able to attend this MVP summit & forthcoming TechEd conferences. Otherwise I planned to meet you people in US. <br /><br />Thanks to Gaurav for reminding values about foundation of this forum, I'm really pleased to associate alongwith you people in this forum. 2004 seems to be bit leisure in the forum, as not many posts now a days when it compared to year 2003 or not more issues with SQL server in the outside world [<img src='/community/emoticons/emotion-2.gif' alt=':D' />]. <br /><br /><br /><br /><hr noshade size="1"><b>Satya SKJ</b><br />Moderator<br /<a target="_blank" href=http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com/forum>http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com/forum</a><br /><center><font color="teal"><font size="1">This posting is provided “AS IS” with no rights for the sake of knowledge sharing.</font id="size1"></font id="teal"></center>

I actually statted typing names of all the people and then realize that it will turn into a real big post which most of us would not have cared to read. So I just left the top of the list.<br /><br />Your name was definately there Luis. After loosing a long battle of no. of posts with Satya, I need to work hard to maintain my position from you.... I'd love to meet everyone but it will probably need to wait a year. Last year my boss went to PASS. This year the DBA who's been here longer is going to TechEd. Next year (2005) its my turn to pick where I want to go. Probably PASS, but I'll wait and see whats up then.
If anyone is in Vancouver (BC, Canada) for a conference, drop me a line. Otherwise the only trip I'm planning in the next 12 months is to Dublin, Ireland in October for the Marathon.

    Chris,

I never knew that you are at Vancover. I am in Seattle. I'll send you a note in case I happen to be there, which may be anytime this summer.

Brad, did you see Bill Graziano there? He also runs a forum at SQLTeam. It's been really fun participating in both your forums. I really appreciate all the material you guys put out there for us.

Yes, I have been hanging out with Bill a lot. In fact, we used to work together when I lived in Kansas City.

    Hey Derrick,

I tried to register with sqlteam, but it just sent me from the registration details page back to the same page over and over again. I do have ZoneAlarm installed, but can't see how I need to configure that to alow me to register with sqlteam?

I also sent them an email almost a week ago now, but no response as yet...?

    Cheers

What is the level of settings on Zone Alarm?
Even I also ZA and never had such issue while accessing webpages.

BTW, where are you based at UK?

    Hey Chris...
Then probably I can meet you there and if you're planning to visit Scotland, let me know.

    Satya,
I dont know how much time I'll have for Ireland. Its bad timing wise in that the other sr dba has had a long time vacation planned for then, but I'll see what I can swing. I've never been to either Ireland or Scotland and infact only spent about 3 days in the UK total when I was over that way. Genealogy is a hobby of mine and I have ancestry in both England and Ireland (amoung other places) and would love to spend some time in old cemetaries and churches (I know sounds exciting). But I'll keep you posted.

Gaurav, I dont get down to Seattle all that often, but might this year. Let me know if you come up this way. I live and work within walking distance to downtown so am very central.

ZA is pretty much set to default settings... It is the full version of ZA so it will try to strip out adverts, etc.

I'm in London, working for the National Archives in Kew

Then it shouldn't create such problem, have you tried from other machine to authenticate the registration.

I feel its good impression to greet somebody personally when you conversant with that individual.
This is the only forum I've seen so far with mixed culture and race, and each of them are polite to every other individual and hoping to keep the same rapport in future.

Strange, SQLTeam.com also uses Snitz, but I think a newer version than here. I once contacted Bill to change my username and he was very quick with his reply.

ok, I can register from work fine, so it has to be something to do with security of my machine at home. I must be more paranoid at home than at work... <img src='/community/emoticons/emotion-5.gif' alt=';-)' /><br /><br />Cheers<br />Twan
