We need to upgrade SQL Server 2K SP3a on our Windows Server 2003 SP1 two nodes Cluster and I have a doubt regarding how to install the latest hotfix. The actual SQL Server Build is 8.00.0818 My intention is this: For Service Pack: Backup all database. Stop all monitoring software services like MOM. Restart the servers before installing. Remove or take offline all resources with dependencies on SQL Server. Run the SP from the node that own the Group containing the Virtual Server to upgrade. This should upgrade all nodes. Could you please instruct me on how to install the hotfix? Is Build 2187 the latest? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916287/ Cheers. Please advise. Franco
Yes that is the latest build and check the list of events from that KBA. Refer tohttp://www.sql-server-performance.com/sqlserver2000_clustering_install_part3.asp to apply SP to a cluster instance. http://www.kbalertz.com/Feedback_914839.aspx too. We are trying to apply SP4 to SQL Server 2K SP3a, Build Number 8.00.818 but we get this error after we write the name of the virtual server and click next: Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library: Buffer overrun detected! Program:...DMIN~1Locals~Temp_ISTMP6.DIR_INS5576._MP A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated. This is what we have done prior to trying to install SP4: Backup all database. Stop all monitoring software services like MOM... Restart the servers before installing. Remove or take offline all resources with dependencies on SQL Server. Run the SP from the node that own the Group containing the Virtual Server to upgrade, but at this point the error show up. Any idea? Please advise. Franco
Ooh thats not good, linkhttp://www.sqlmag.com/Article/ArticleID/46852/sql_server_46852.html talks about few issue around the buffer overrun. Thank you for the link, but I have no access to all the article... Do you know if there is a solution provided by Microsoft? Please advise. Franco
There isn't any from Microsoft, the best bet would be to call PSS in this case to get a hotfix. I'm sure there was a hotfix available but not for public. Hi, is this what you are looking for ! its a link for build 2187 which is cumulative hotfix pack. : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...40-bdee-44df-b7a3-e6849297754a&DisplayLang=en Hemantgiri S. Thanks Satya,I will call PSS. Ghemant, I think that build 2187 is a cumulative hotfix package AFTER SP4. My problem is that I can't even apply SP4 on my Cluster. The strategy was to first install SP4 and then the cumulative package 2187. Thank you anyway. Cheers. Franco
Remove MSDTC Resource from SQL Sever Group was the solution. SP4 was then succesfully installed. Thank you for your reply and support. Franco

Appreciate your feedback Franco, on the other forum you've mentioned that you're getting this with C++ component.
