I have couple of dts packages and schdeule as jobs running every night, one of them, got error every night, however strangly enough, when I right click on the job and click "Start Job", it is succeeded every time. Check on job history detail not helping much.

    Any idea?

    Thanks

If you go to job history, be sure to click the 'show job steps' checkbox.
This should introduce new log entries which give the actual error, instead of the generic 'job failed' error

Beside if the transaction are running through network call, then it might be issue with network or there might be log file getting filled up as all jobs are running at same time.

Thanks for your reply. I did check "show job steps". but the thing puzzles me most is why manually running job, everything is fine. Job IS running on network, there are couple of jobs running at the same time. So should I just trunc log file to see what happen tonight.

I will let you know what happen tonight.

It seems trunc log file not helping stopping the job failure. Here is show step detail information on failed job, however when I right click on Job, then Start Job, it works fine. If there is bad data, nothing should work no matter how you run the job. I really need some pointer here, thanks again.

Could it be a permissions problem?
What user is the job scheduled to run as ?
When running it from enterprise manager, I believe it will run as the user you are logged in as
