SQL Server Performance

Large Page Extenstions - question -

    We have a 64-bit SQL Server and have assigned Lock Pages in Memory. As soon as you add the “Lock Pages in Memory” privilege for the service account, start enabled this option. (Large Page Extenstions)

    Can someone please explain exactly what these are, when would you use them, and should they be enabled?
    Should Lock Pages in Memory be enabled on 64-bit systems?

    Please advise. TIA!
