When the Primary server goes down , do we need to run a script to make the standby server a primary server(to get it out of read only mode) or is this automatically take care of.

Also when the primary server goes down and we are not able to login to the primary server then we will not be able to apply the latest transaction log to the standby server. How do we overcome this. One way i feel is to back up the transactions logs on the primary server on a separate disk so that later on if need be we can pull out the disk and use it on the standby server.

    Thanks
