during the setup of this there is an option to do a full db backup. (which i choose not to do.)
    - was i correct here?

so i do not have the option of doing full db backups on my primary server correct?

also should i setup a maintenance plan on my standby db?

I will not choose this option when doing the log shipping, I will handle the database backup seperately using a seperate job and not using maintenance plans.

so i was correct in my installation of log shipping then.

so you would write some sql to do a full backup then?
    - but will this not affect how the log shipping does trans. log backups and applies them to the standby server? (i.e. will the full backup affect log shipping?)

Both full database backup and backup log will work against and they will fail, so it is suggested to avoid backup log if running database backup.

no that's not what i meant.

    For Log Shipping
    - just doing log backups. No full db backup.

my issue is that I have a standby server sure. but i would still like to have full db backups taken on my primary server also.

i have this all setup and the copy job that copies the tarns. logs from the primary server to the standby server takes like 1 second and reports successful
but the file does not get physically copied.

    any ideas?

Oh then check the network side and see whether any issues with SQLAgent account failing to copy the files between the servers.

    I have the same question.
Can I do full backups of a database that has the primary role in a logshipping? or maybe it is incompatible...
I want to have backups of this database apart of having a copy in standby.

    Greetings.
