   There isnt any automatic way. Clients need to re-establish connection to the new server.

   Welcome to the forums.
   Appreciate your Q here stating this is something you got from interview question, as suggested this has to be manually configured at Application level to take care of connectivity. Also I would suggest to take a look at Books ONline for SQL Server where you can use as first hand resource to get good information in hand.
