This may be a dirty word in here, but I was attempting to find information in the expansive "Microsoft Newsgroups." Even though I still think this site is the best, I always like to research more and find other information as well.

Does anyone in here use the MS Newsgroups? IF so, please post the ones that you use as resources for SQL Server performance tuning.

Here is the website I am using, please let me know if this is correct:<br /http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp

Lastly, the ones I was looking through begin with "sqlserver."

Just curious and not trying to be a traitor...

    *.programming
*.server
*.setup
*.de.sqlserver are my favorite newsgroups, which I use to follow and participate in the latter case. []
Personally I think it's necessary not to rely on only one source of information. Actually, I think, if you do so, that's a somewhat dangerous and unprofessional behaviour and might kill you someday. Mistakes are made here, just like anywhere else.

And since I can't access nntp server directly from work, I use the web interface you've already mentioned and really like it. And I frequently use the Google groups archives, too.

-----------------------
--Frank<br /http://www.insidesql.de
-----------------------
I visit & reply in
    - sqlserver.clustering
    - sqlserver.dts
    - sqlserver.connect
    - sqlserver.security
    - sqlserver.server
    - sqlserver.setup
    - sqlserver.tools

Even I do browse MS Newsgroups few times for referral and I feel MVPs & MS Support replies to the questions gives in-depth of resolution.

I agree with Frank that never rely on one source of information and it helps if you can sought information from various places.

Cool. I'll check those out as well. Agree as well that you can't go to only one source for information, but if you were to only use one, this site has the most articles covering the most topics on one easy to find site for SQL Server.

Frank, "kill" is a little harsh, don't you think.

    I participate in:
    microsoft.private.directaccess.sqlserver

However, I am not sure if it is accessible for everyone. My company is a Microsoft partner and I think that's why I can use it. Still, I sometimes quote posts from that list here.

    Chopeen,

I don't see that group, so I guess the public does not have access.

    Thanks.

    I've just discovered microsoft.public.cert.mcdba.

Seems like a nice place for people taking MS exams.

No, not really! There's a lot of crap talk on it. You better stick to the other newsgroups.

Can you recommend any particular one?

So, since the newsgroups are hosted by Microsoft and certainly monitored by MS, why do you expect that in depth question are there discussed. I've followed this newsgroup for about three months and all I can remember are discussions about which test provider is better []

Do you know Transcender? They seem to be one of the big players in this game. Some might argue that their preparation material is close to cheating, but that's another thing. They also provide a Question-of-the-day feature, which is free after a simple registration. Might be also of some help to you.

-----------------------
--Frank<br /http://www.insidesql.de
-----------------------
