Migration from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008

    I have to do migration from sql 2005 to sql 2008., i know we cannot restored systemds like master,msdb,model., can i detach them from 2005 and attach the mdf and ldf in 2008?

    De-Attach these 4 main DBs in inapplicable for lots of reasons:

    · No De-Attach function is available for those 4 main DBs which does mean Attach function isn’t available also thereby the only available solution is movement of their files when both SQL Services ( 2005 and 2008 ) are stopped which isn’t a workable solution ..

    · Despite of that , these 4 DBs are different in schema design , Codes and data entity stored inside their tables , so I get scared if they are replaced , it will yield SQL instance to lots of troubles ending up with a standstill case for the entire of SQL instances

    Therefore, might you narrow down your needs of these DBs , it is for moving all SSIS packages or SQL logins ….etc to be able to help you finding a workable solution for your case..?
