    Hi

For 15 days now my SQL server service is terminating with the following error

MSSQLSERVER service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 Time(s).
This service terminates and restarts automatically and sometimes doesnt restart we have to mannuly start it again.
    Event ID: 7034.

    Version Details

    Version: MSSQL Server 2000
    Service Pack: 3a
    Build: 8.0.0.760
    Front End: JD Edwards

I have checked many forums most of them suggest to apply the latest service pack. But the same error has been reported by sites having SP4 also.
    Kindly help.

    Thank you

We have been running the same setup without any changes for more than 2 years without any problems.

Two things to note prior to SP4 install is that
1- SP3a has been running without any problems for more than 2 years
2- Setups with SP4 have also reported a similar error

I Want to make sure before I apply SP4 as this is a live env..

Frontend is JDEdwards, have you checked for relevant compatibility with SQL Server SP4.

Yes, with our current version of JD Edwards MSSQL 2000 SP4 is compatible (I have checked this)

    Hi

The only log that is available is in the Eventviewer-

"The MSSQLSERVER service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s)."

No SQL logs, no dump files ...nothing

The SQL version details are as below
MSSQL 2000 standard edition, Service pack 3a (8.0.0.760)

SP3a is fairly old now, you might need to test and apply SP4 with above fix too.

I have seen this error on one of our customer's machines. We upgraded to SP4 and it solved the issue. I seem to recall it had something to do with an either corrupt or missing files in the SQL installation.

    Hi

The reason for not applying cumulative patch is that I need to get confirmation form my application support (JD Edwards). Once they confirm i will install this.

    Thank you

Well, can you test this on the development environment to be assured until you get a response from JDEdwards.

    Hi

The issue has not re-occurred. Applying SP4 has solved the problem. Thank you all.
