SQL Server Performance

No passive nodes were successfully patched

    while installing hte SP2 on db services and analysis services on a cluster server, it failed. In the log found the below,
    Error Number : 11009
    Error Description : No passive nodes were successfully patched
    Any idea what this error is and how to overcome it..?

    May check this KBA KB 934749 that talks about getting a hotfix which may involve the support cost, but best to check with support.
    The other one which has been specified by a MVP that failing over the SQL Server instance to the new node and then removing nodes that are possible owners. Once the setup thought that it was running on a single node, the install worked, updating the SQL Server instance and files on the new node to the appropriate version that matched the other nodes.

    The solution to the issue I had with SP3 is that you need to PAUSE the other cluster node then everything runs sweet.

    That is why it is recommended to go through the README file of that patch before you are applying.
