We are planning to consolidate all our 27 database servers into one powerful box plus clustering.
All instances will have its own SAN storage.
Any recommendation/consideration of hardware requirements before proceeding with this plan?

    Welcome to the forum!!
Without more information about databases size, traffic, users, one database mean one instance?, and so on, the only recommendation is: by a huge hardware.

    • Assign memory resources per instance (configure min. and max memory)
    • configure SAN to be RAID 10 for data and log (data may be RAID 5)
    • separate data files and log files in different LUNs
    • NTFS format with block size 64K , with alignment (misalignment reduce IO performane 30% )
    • auto increment for database to be value not percent (design capacity plan for the databases)
    • configure AWE (if 32 bit box)

Thank you for your immediate response.
How about hardware specifications? Should 1:1 ratio of logical processor and memory is required for this scenario?

Hi Joy,unless until you give more info about your database size and its growth, concurrent user connections, nature of the databases (OLTP/OLAP), no one can suggest anything other than the best practices. But again, if you want to use this machine for Production purposes, I won't suggest these many multiple instance in one box.
