SQL Compare vs. SQLDiff?

I'm considering purchasing a SQL Comparison tool, and have evaluated SQL Compare and SQLDiff... Basically the same product--SQL Compare is SLOW but half the cost. I don't think my boss will consider free support (for SQLDiff) as a reason to buy a more expensive product. Anyone have any recommendations?

thx for the post. This is Brian at LockwoodTech, author of SQLDiff.

Actually, if you want to compare STRUCTURE and DATA then the products are approx the same price - as you would have to buy the Red-Gate bundle to compare structures. If you actually want support and upgrades, SQLDiff quickly becomes much less expensive in comparison, the longer you own the product.

We are adding a ton of new features to SQLDiff each week - all upgrades are free.

If you only want structure differences though - let me know at brian@lockwoodtech.com and I can cut you a custom order.

Good to know Author's interest to offer flexible application, I haven't used SQLDiff but used SQLCompare and depending your reply thread I will consider testing SQLDiff also.

Thanks for reply. It is important to give customers ALL options and let them decide. If you don't like LockwoodTech see www.adeptsql.com, for another alternative, but please consider other tools in each niche. Such competition is good for customers of software and advertisers (such as sql-server-performance).

I can provide free unlock code to you for this and any other LockwoodTech product for purposes of testing/evaluation.

Another tool you may be interested in is Log Navigatore www.lockwoodtech.com/index_lognavigator.htm an inexpensive alternative to Lumigent's Log Explorer for trigger free database auditing.

I ended up purchasing SQLDiff because of the free upgrades. Both products had equal flaws, in my opinion, and I didn't want to keep going back to ask for money. I didn't realize that it also does data. That's an added bonus (but I can't figure out how to do it offhand--oh, well, not a priority at the moment).

I didn't give the boss an option. Just said I needed it ASAP for a big production migration.

thx much for the biz. SQLDiff is far from perfect but we are working full time to improve it and ensure customers get all upgrades free.

For data diff - look at the outlook bar on the left - you will see another "node" callded Data. Click this to expose Data Diff controls.

Our company purchased SQLDBCompare, SQLDiff and SQL Comapre. Actually, SQLDBCompare is much better tool than SQL Compare and SQLDiff. It is cheapest in same tool category. It cost only $79. You can get SQLDBCompare athttp://www.bestsofttool.com.

I found DB Ghost from Innovartis to be a far superior tool. It addresses more than just database comparison (which a tool in this area should). It has radically improved our database upgrade process.

Every third party tool will have distinctive advantages & dis-advantages and depends upon the specific environment also, as a whole we shouldn't take it granted its a good product until unless its tested with real-time data.
