SQL Server 2008 ODBC Errors ??

I have a database that is running great on Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2005, but when i copied it to another server on Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008, i keep getting the following ODBC errors.
    Connection Failed
    SQLState ‘01000’
    SQL Server Error : 5
Microsoft ODBC SQL server Driver (DBNETLIB) Connection Open (Connect()) Connection Failed
    SQL State ‘08001’
    SQL Server Error : 17
Microsoft ODBC SQL server Driver (DBNETLIB) SQL server does not exist or access denied
Ther weird part is that when i try to establish an ODBC connection to SQL 2008 from my desktop, the 'test connection' keeps failing .
But when i test the connection to the SQL Server 2005 DB it also fails.
So if the 'test connection' fails for both DB's, why does the application work on SQL 2005 but not on SQL 2008?
What does one have to do to get this to work on SQL 2008, are there different drivers to download ?
I have enabled the TCP/IP networking, all the logons were copied over fine, when i map the server drive i have the correct access.
I am using the 'sa' login.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
