    Dear All,

I am planning to install SQL Server 2008 on Vista Home Basic OS. Can anybody clarify me which edition of SQL server 2008 is compatible with the Vista Home Basic.

I want to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise or Developer edition. Many people say that Vista Home Basic is not compatible for any SQL Server 2008 Editions.

When I saw the Hardware and Software requirements for SQL Server 2008 in Microsoft site, it shows Windows Vista Home Basic is compatible OS for SQL Server 2008 Developer edition.

Please check the below URL for OS requirements:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx

One more question, what is the difference between SQL Server 2008 Enterprise and Developer editions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ravi

SQl server Developer editions is Full featured edition (like enterprise) but only for development and testing (not for production, and can not be used for production) .it may cost $50
you can install SQL Server 2008 Developer edition on Vista Home Basic(just for developing)
for Business , you install Enterprise on Windows Servers only (may cost $25000 per CPU)
    have a look: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/editions.aspx
for price and license policy review

    Thanks for the quick reply,
I want to install SQL 2k8 to learn the new features and do some RnD. I just want to get a confirmation from people like you before purchasing the CD/DVD.
    Regards,
    Ravi.
