Sql server service Pack 3 -- Failover Cluster Service.

    Hi ... i have installed sql server 2005 failover cluster in windows 2003 server . Now i have to apply the Sql server SP3 on the server . i have not installed sql client in any of the clusters node . Can you explain the steps for applying the Sql Service pack 3 in failover Environment . ?

    Welcome to the forum...
    You don't need client tools to install Service Pack...
    Read me file of sp3 has all the info you needed to install sp3 and also

    thks for your reply ...
    but i am not clear on the following points which they have mentioned as installation procedures on document.
    1) Resources that have dependencies on SQL Server resources must be removed or taken offline prior applying SP3.
    why do we need to remove or bring offline the dependencies while applying the sql server service pack 3 ?
    2)Enable named pipes on your SQL Server 2005 server .
    is it mandatory ?
