Well, you don't generally celebrate Easter, do you? -- Frank Kalis Moderator Microsoft SQL Server MVP Webmaster:http://www.insidesql.de
Frank, I don't actually celebrate those christian holidays, but I get the days off all the same - not Good Friday, though.
Adriaan,<br />neither do I. However, I enjoy these days off. [<img src='/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif' alt='' />]<br />We already wondered when we drove home from The Netherlands on Good Friday. Is that an ordinary working day for you? Just curious because I think it is considered one of the highest ecclesiastical ceremony.<br /><br />--<br />Frank Kalis<br />Moderator<br />Microsoft SQL Server MVP<br />Webmaster:<a target="_blank" href=http://www.insidesql.de>http://www.insidesql.de</a>
Good Friday is a day off for civil servants and schools only, no one else. It may be the highest ecclesiastic ceremony of the year but of course it's not a terribly happy event to commemorate. We do have a bit of a national cult surrounding J.S. Bach's Mattheus Passion during Holy Week. Lots of people here work 36 hours, or 32/40 hours with Friday off every other week, which explains why traffic is relatively quiet on Friday afternoon. But on Good Friday we usually see lots of Germans traveling towards the Dutch coast for the long week-end ...
Yes, we have seen an endless queue of cars rolling towards your shopping malls. -- Frank Kalis Moderator Microsoft SQL Server MVP Webmaster:http://www.insidesql.de
Frank, Earlier on, you said: "We already wondered when we drove home from The Netherlands on Good Friday." I already found this atypical. Now you say: "Yes, we have seen an endless queue of cars rolling towards your shopping malls." This is our national cult for Easter Monday, Whitmonday, Ascension Day and Friday-after-Ascension-Day. So unless this second national cult has spread to Good Friday as well, surely you must have driven home on Easter Monday. Did you bring your towel?
No, we went back from a week of vacation on Good Friday. And since we drove through Roermond we have seen these cars heading that direction and so I thought they came to visit the Designer Outlet there. -- Frank Kalis Moderator Microsoft SQL Server MVP Webmaster:http://www.insidesql.de
Yes, the Roermond designer outlet shopping mall is more than just terrible, on any given day. More things that you did not want to buy when they came on the market, and that you should not want to buy today, but what else can you do on your day off? People sometimes ...
Absolutely! Personally I could think of a myriad other things to do on a free day than shopping. But that's probably just me... -- Frank Kalis Moderator Microsoft SQL Server MVP Webmaster:http://www.insidesql.de
Also, Roermond is thoroughly roman-catholic. Listening to Bach's Matthäus Passion is more a protestant cult.

We didn't mention the 19th century Munsterkerk - by the same architect who designed the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum. Other than that, nothing grand, but a nice enough town to walk through. The designer outlet shopping mall can be avoided, as it's just outside the historic town centre.
I get the Netherlands on 2nd for my next holiday stop, thanks [<img src='/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif' alt='' />].<br /><br /><b>Satya SKJ</b><br />Microsoft SQL Server MVP<br />Writer, Contributing Editor & Moderator<br /<a target="_blank" href=http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com>http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com</a><br /><center><font color="teal"><font size="1">This posting is provided AS IS with no rights for the sake of <i>knowledge sharing. <hr noshade size="1">The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.</i></font id="size1"></font id="teal"></center>
