I have seen the term virtual instance but don't know what it means. Can someone explain it? Does it mean SQL Server instance created in Virtual Server? Thanks.

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/multipleinstances.mspx too and the virtual instance is referring to the OS copy if you are using Virtual Server product.
