Does anyone have a good example of this please?
Come on, this concept has been around since SQL Server 2005. This is no true 2008 question.
Lots of links on it. For example this one: http://www.sql-server-performance.com/articles/per/temp_tables_vs_variables_p1.aspx
Actually, table variables were introduced in sql server 2000.
In SQL 7.0.
Luis, are you sure?

No problem. I remember invstigating differences between temp tables and table variables, so I was afraid my memory started to fade too fast
