what is purpose of dbcc update statistics in performance tuning?

    Yeap!.
    Is one of the secrets to have a good performance.
    Also is Reindex (include update statistics), integrity, etc.

    To put the Update statistics in general sense it is nothing but how you organise your desk/work place to get the required paper when you need. Also like arranging your own music tracks in your MP3 player where you classify the tracks in respective GENRE. [:)].
