Wht r the things to chk for/do when a srvr is down

    Hello DBA's

    What are the things to check for immediately when we happen to know that a server is down and not running.

    What are the steps to be taken to bring it back?

    You can check sql server error log and find what was the reason.

    Along with sql error log... check system log/application log because if the failure reason is other than sql it will not write to sql log ...

    If it is cluster check the cluster.log too...

    On above all make sure to have complete backups for user and system databases, where you can get back the server online. Make sure to test this disaster recovery procedures, as referred in this website and I have posted such link somewhere here.
