    SQL 2000 SP4 (2040).
    W3k SP2.
I have one script (SQL ZIP, old backup compression) to backup 2 databases. One start 1PM and run for 10 minutes, the other start 2PM and run for 5 minutes.
The script run well for about 4 month.
Now, the script finished with errors but the backup is good.
After some research I found the problem: there is no more xp_cmdshell in master.
So, I recreate xp_cmdshell again. The script finished Ok for 3 or 4 days, after that xp_cmdshell gone again.
    What could be the reason?

Are you sure that privileges to access XP_CMDSHELL are intact?
as a test you can try executing the same from query analyzer or even run profiler during that time to see what is happening behind the scenes.

    I'll try that.
But, the problem is xp_cmdshell is not in master. Like someone delete it.
Just in case I've installed last 2000 SP4 security updates.
