Devart has released a comparison tool which supports SQL Server developers and DBAs to support their day to day work.
The key use of this tool is to compare database schemas between databases.
First you need to define the source and target databases. In this, you can create a connection which can be used later.
You can ignore unnecessary options such as constraints, indexes column order etc as shown in following image.
In the above dialog box, all the available options are clearly elaborated so that any developer can understand. Also, you have the option of saving your defaults by using the Save As My Defaults button. When you are performing another comparison, you can recall these by clicking the My Defaults command button.
Next, you have the option of filtering objects so that you can filter unnecessary objects to narrow down the comparison.
In addition, there is another tab to map schemas. Sometimes, different databases have different schemas but the same objects. To match this, you can Schema mapping tab.
Finally, the most important comparison will be shown:
Output will have four categories, Only in Source, Different, Only in Target and Equal.
Most tools does not support trigger order which is supported in this tool.
In a comparison tool, synchronizing is very important. Synchronization runs through a wizard.
In the first option of the wizard there are three options as shown in the following image.
Although, you can save them in a sql file, there is no option to open your favorite external tool, like SQL Server Management Studio. (SSMS).
The next tab allows you to take a backup of your target database. This is a rare feature among compare tools.
Next tab is to script dependencies if required.
