Replication Monitoring

Most DBAs are aware that Microsoft's SQL Server Enterprise Manager offers a replication monitor. So you may ask why you would need an additional tool for monitoring replication. Microsoft's replication monitor tracks only failed synchronizations. SQL diagnostic manager's replication monitor not only tracks failed synchronizations, but also provides valuable transaction information and other details such as transactions that have taken a long time to run.

Alerts

Automatic notification of potential SQL Server problems is a valuable asset to every database administrator. SQL diagnostic manager allows you to define warning values and error values, along with the way you want alerts delivered to you. You can have your alerts delivered as a beep, an e-mail, a network message, or in the Windows Event Log. Similarly, you can monitor jobs that have ended abnormally and jobs that run for abnormally long periods from the Scheduled Jobs tab.

Agent Job Monitoring

Another important functionality of the SQL diagnostic manager is to monitor the performance and status of specific jobs. Failed jobs are easily identified and with filtering, you can quickly narrow the list to ease your search. As mentioned above, you can receive alerts on failed jobs, jobs that have ended abnormally, or jobs that run for abnormally long periods from the Scheduled Jobs tab.

Other Important Functionality

If you are doing performance tuning of a database, it is important things to identify the worst performing statements on your SQL Servers. SQL diagnostic manager will automatically pinpoint those statements for you in seconds. The Worst-Performing window (below) shows how SQL diagnostic manager can filter out these statements based on date, database server, SQL User, NT User, and database name.

Hopefully this review has shown you the wide variety of functions that SQL diagnostic manager offers.
