SQL Server 2005 Cluster Running Under VS2005

I recently completed a project that may be of interest to some. On my desktop, which has a 2.4 MHz HT chip, 1GB RAM, and Windows XP Professional, I installed the Release Candidate of Microsoft Virtual Server 2005. Then I created two guest Windows 2003 Enterprise installs (node1 and node2), a virtual network, and a virtual shared SCSI shared hard drive. On node1, I made it a domain controller and DNS server, and then on node2, I made it a part of the domain I had created on the domain controller. Then, I created a 2003 two-node cluster using node1 and node2, the virtual network, and the virtual shared SCSI shared hard drive. And last, I installed Beta 2 of Windows 2005 on the cluster as an active/passive cluster. Believe it or not, it all worked (although it took about 10 hours to complete. So now I am learning all about SQL Server 2005 clustering on my portable. Performance is a little slow (the harddisk is the biggest bottleneck), but not bad. Microsoft’s Virtual PC can’t be used for clustering, but Virtual Server 2005 works great, even if it is only a RC now. I will be soon writing articles on all of this above, but I thought some of you might be intersted in trying this out for yourself. —————————–

It’s one of the most stable RC’s I’ve ever used from Microsoft Brad. It will be very interesting to see your results. I’m signed up for one of your sessions at PASS btw. MeanOldDBA

That’s great you will be at PASS. It is always good to meet forum members. Anyone else coming to PASS that I don’t know about? —————————–
