Upgrading to Express from MSDE 2000 Release A

I’m trying to upgrade the Default Instance of MSDE 2000 Release A which is installed with Mixed Mode and strong password to SQL Server 2005 Express in a Windows 2000 Server with SP4. On the Upgrade Logon Information screen, if I select SQL Server Authentication Mode, it will give me this message: SQL Server Setup Cannot Upgrade the specified instance by using SQL Server Credential. You must use Windows Authentication credential for the upgrade. Thanks for any help.

THen have you tried changing the authentication mode to windows only as suggested? Satya SKJ

Hi Satya, I did and it worked fine with Windows Authentication. But if SQL Server Authentication Mode cannot be used for upgrade, should it be disabled or don’t even ask about Authentication? Peter
Due to the MSDE2000A has enable the sQL authentication and the restrictions on SQLexpress to use Windows only authentication, it will not proceed until the user have taken the action to change the mode. Satya SKJ

Hi Satya, Are you saying that it may be caused by the default Authentication Mode (Windows Authentication) of Express? If yes, if I pass the parameter SECURITYMODE=SQL, should it solve the problem? I’m not sure whether it is true that MSDE has a bug that will ignore the parameter SECURITYMODE=SQL during installation. I see this mentions in a forum.
