Approach to performance tuning

Hi ya, just want to try and gauge other people’s perception… My initial limit for any query is 100ms, anything higher and I suspect it as having room for improvement… what do others use as an initial benchmark? note not saying that 100ms is good, just that when I go into a site cold that is the first benchmark that I tend to use… after resolving all of the +100ms queries, I then analyse the rest by running a longer trace and summing cpu/duration to see which are cumulatively the most resource hungry… interested to hear other people’s approach Cheers

I have the same approach. After that I change to +40 and, in different trace, +100 cpu.

SQL-Server-Performance.com Although nature commences with reason and ends in experience it is necessary for us to do the opposite, that is to commence with experience and from this to proceed to investigate the reason.
