Data Mining???

Hi all, I am currently at a stage where I can now make cubes and am able to slice, dice etc. etc. my cubes and get a WEALTH of information across the dimensions…. Howvere at this stage my feeling is that the world of Data Mining is yet tobe encountered and what ever Ihave learned so far should only be considered as a pre-requisite interms of getting towards Data Mining. Am I right in assuming this? My assumption also is that whenever and once I get to the Data Mining stage the result of that would be that the system will be automatically churning out "trends" and "forecasts" for me…. I’ll appreciate if the experts/experienced folks can help me clarify my understanding and canalso guide me so thatIcan move a step closer to using Data Mining. Many thanks in advance. Regards.

Data mining is a very complex subject, do not fall into the assumption that data mining is some type of crystal ball or magic wand that will just solve all your problems in the blink of an eye. However I’m not saying it won’t work for you and your business just that it is not as easy as it sounds. With respect to SQL Server in my opinion the data mining facilities in SQL Server 2000 are somewhat limited, however with the new version of SQL Server 2005 there are many enhancments like the addition of 5 new algorithms.
