Data warehousing & data mining

Hi, I am new to data warehousing & data mining. Can somebody please explain both of these & also their differences? Also please let me know what tools are available for each of them. Is there any in-built feature in SQL 2000 which provides these. Then please brief me on that too… Thanks & Regards

Data Warehousing is a very broad topic.
So you need to refer to diffrent books or tutorials over the net on these topics.
Ofcourse SQL 2000 has various tools to accomplish Data Warehousing.

A warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant and non-volatile collection of data in support of management’s decision making process…as per Bill Inmon We can mine the data after making data warehouse. Mining allways highlights the hidden feature in the data.I can give you an example… Suppose for create a Good Quality "ABC" product a,b,c,d,e ingredients are needed…
But c ingredient is too costly for the manufacturer…
Now they want to reduce the producing cost of "ABC" ..but they don’t want to compromise with the quality of "ABC".. Now how is it possible??.. So some other ratio of raw materials can fulfill the requirement.. For that purpose different analysis is necessary.. Like Nural Analysis/Clustering Analysis(Different Ways) etc… So ultimately we can say data warehouse is possible without data mining but data mining is not possible without data warehouse.. Because data mining is the extended requirement of data warehousing..
