Enable identity insert


Can someone tell me what the function of the checkbox "enable identity insert" is when creating a DTS using the import/export wizard? What difference doe it make if it is selected/not selected?
Well, the name is pretty much self-describing. When this option is set, you can explicitely insert values into a column having the IDENTITY property defined in it. —

I gave a basic dts training recently and I was surprised that someone inserted identity values without checking this option. Thanks for reminding me to examine the issue.
