any issue providing more amount of RAM

Hi suppose my SQL server need only 2GB of RAM and I am allocating 4GB for SQL server, This will create any perfmon related issue?
More is always merrier…[8D]
THere will not be any kind of issues in allocating more memory than standard 2GB and ensure if the SQL server is a standard edition then you the max limit is only 2GB. If the SQL edition is Enterprise Edition and memory is set to dynamic then SQL will grab 4Gb or depending on the server memory. Satya SKJ

really we need to use /3GB switch to use only 1GB by OS .i read this in many doc , but not at all satisfied with it <img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-6.gif’ alt=’:(‘ /><br /><br />i enabled AWE.<br />mine is 8GB RAM. i found no /3GB switch in boot.ini file. so dynamic mem usage of SQL server wil go only up to 6GB or 7GB.
Refer to the other threads under ‘Performance tuning Hardware configuration’ section for relevant posts about /3GB and AWE in this regard. Satya SKJ

–Then add it. Is this a dedicated SQL Server? What edition of SQL Server? Does your first post in this thread relate to the last one? There seems to be some disconnect between the two. MeanOldDBA

Dedicated SQL server.
SQl Server 2000 E edition "i found no /3GB switch in boot.ini file. so dynamic mem usage of SQL server wil go only up to 6GB or 7GB." THis query you can take . TOtal RAM 8GB server has .i have AWE ebabled but no max mem set . Link given by Sathya was really helpful. According to tht, the dynamic mem usage can go only upto 6GB as there is no /3GB switch in boot.ini .
