Backup Compression tools

Hello,<br /><br />Currently we are zipping our backups using winzip. However I’ve heard that wmzip can cause corruptions to the data. I am currently looking at SQL Litespeed and RED Gates backup tool. Anyone have suggestions or comments on these or other tools (hopefully cheaper <img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’:)‘ />. <br /><br />Thanks in Advance
I have been using using 7-Zip format (www.7-zip.org) for more than a year now. I have never had any problems to decompress the backup file and restore the database from it. You should only avoid choosing maximum level of compression or it will take ages to compress the file. — Rediscover the web

Has anyone used SQL Litespeed? I really don’t see much of a difference between red gate and litespeed except the price. 250(RG) vs 999(LS) thanks
I’ve tried Winzip before and I just found it slow. Have you ever tried to compress a 40G file? I use Red-Gate’s product now. Its very fast and easy to use. Litespeed offers some extra bell’s and whistles (Litespeed can recover a single table) however as stated it is much more expensive. Both these products offer trials, so you check out both of them to see what works better for you.
I was told SQLLiteSpeed is a good tool in order to compress the backup and performance.
As a test you can download the trial versions or contact vendors for your test to accomplish the task. Satya SKJ
