does anyone know where i can find documentation of best practices for setting up a central management server for managing jobs or a case study on this.

a dedicated server used to manage other servers centrally(single point)e.g. a CMS can be used to manage jobs from other servers from one location.
Oh, have you searched under MS pages or may be third party tools will do this task such as veritas, BMC etc. Are you looking for SMS (Systems Management Server) from MS? HTH Satya SKJ
