CPU timing drift on AMD 64-bit processors

I have a couple of servers with Next-Generation Opteron 2216 HE / 2.4 GHz dual-core procs. On one of them I am getting the following errors in the error log
The time stamp counter of CPU on scheduler id 1 is not synchronized with other CPUs.
SQL Server 2005 SP2 introduced some new diagnostics in regarding CPU timings drifting:- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931279 But the following blog from Bob Dorr (senior PSS engineer) indicates that this error may not indicate a performance problem and may be ignored:- http://blogs.msdn.com/psssql/archiv…e-error-log-related-to-timing-activities.aspx You can download utilities from AMD which are meant to fix this issue as per the link in the KB article. At the moment I don’t think theses messages indicate a performance problem and I am loathe to install the AMd utilities just for the sake of it. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this issue?

We did fix the issue by referring to AMD and using their utilities, it is better to contact the vendor in this case for any firmware driver update. Satya SKJ
