Default Network Library used by ODBC

I just want to confirm whether TCP/IP is the default network library used by ODBC to connect to SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005. I believe it was used to be Named Pipes. I’m using ODBC connnection string and wonder whether it is necessary to specify the Network parameter if I want to use TCP/IP as the network library.
Yes, TCP/ip is default protocol unless it is disabled under server network utility. In SQL 2000 use server network utility and in 2005 goto SQL configuration manager. Satya SKJ

Hi Satya, Thanks for the post. I believe it also depends on whether the TCP/IP is disabled under Client Network Utility.
Sure it is [<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-1.gif’ alt=’:)‘ />], good point.<br /><br /><b>Satya SKJ</b><br />Microsoft SQL Server MVP<br />Writer, Contributing Editor & Moderator<br /<a target="_blank" href=http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com>http://www.SQL-Server-Performance.Com</a><br /><center><font color="teal"><font size="1">This posting is provided AS IS with no rights for the sake of <i>knowledge sharing. <hr noshade size="1">Knowledge is of two kinds.
